How to plan a badminton rotation

  1. Add your players. Type or paste the names of everyone who is playing, from 2 to 12 players.
  2. Choose your courts. Pick 1 or 2 courts. Leave singles on to use a court for 1 vs 1 when there aren’t four players for doubles.
  3. Start the first round. Check the teams and who is resting, then tap Start playing.
  4. Tap Next round after each game. Tick the winning team, tap Next round, and the planner picks the next teams and who rests.

How the planner keeps rotations fair

  • Equal games. Everyone plays the same number of games, give or take one.
  • Rest between games. Nobody plays more than two games in a row unless the group is too small to avoid it, and nobody waits too long for their next game.
  • Everyone plays with everyone. Partners rotate so each player teams up with new people before repeating a partner.
  • Singles when needed. If a court doesn’t have four players for doubles, it can host a 1 vs 1 game instead. Singles turns are shared out, and a singles game counts as a game.

Badminton rotation questions

How does a badminton rotation work?

A rotation decides who plays and who sits out each round so everyone gets a fair share of games. This planner balances games played first, then gives everyone rest between games, then mixes partners so each player teams up with everyone else.

How do you rotate an odd number of badminton players fairly?

Rotate who sits out so everyone rests in turn and nobody rests twice before others have rested once. The planner keeps everyone within one game of each other, so with 5, 7 or 9 players each person still plays the same number of games, give or take one.

How many players do you need for 2 badminton courts?

Any number from 2 up works. With 8 or more players both courts play doubles; with 6 or 7, one court plays doubles and the other plays singles; with 4 or 5, one doubles game is played and the other court stays free.

Can the planner mix doubles and singles?

Yes. When a court doesn’t have four players for doubles, it can host a 1 vs 1 singles game instead. Singles turns are shared out, and a singles game counts as a game. You can turn singles off at any time.

Does everyone get to partner with everyone?

Yes, as a session goes on. The planner avoids your last partner and prefers people you haven’t partnered yet, so partners keep changing and everyone plays with and against everyone else.

Can I record which team won?

Yes. Tick the winning team on each court before tapping Next round, or set it later under Round results. The summary shows each player’s games and wins.

What happens when someone arrives late or takes a break?

Add or pause them under Players and the change applies from the next round, so the current courts never change. Late arrivals and returning players start level with the group and don’t have to play a long run of games to catch up.

Do my friends need to sign up or install an app?

No. One person runs the planner in a phone browser, and everyone else can look at the screen or a copied lineup. There is no account, no signup and no download.

Is my data private?

Yes. Names, games and results are saved only on your device, in this browser, and are never uploaded. Clearing browser data or switching phones removes them.

Does it work offline at the court?

Yes, after your first visit. The planner keeps working without a connection, which helps at sports halls with poor signal.
